Celtics sign 2008 pick Erden

The Celtics signed 2008 second-round draft pick Semih Erden, a 7-footer from Turkey, on Monday in advance of their first summer league game. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Erden was selected by the Celtics with the 60th pick in the 2008 draft. A native of Gaziosmanpasa, Turkey, Erden was a starter for Fenerbahce Ulker this past season when it won the Turkish League championship and averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Erden will be competing for Turkey in the upcoming 2010 FIBA World Championships to be played in his native country.

The Celtics could have a need for big men as Rasheed Wallace is expected to retire and starting center Kendrick Perkins (knee surgery) will miss up to six months.
