Ethier's wife goes into labor early
By Tony Jackson
SAN FRANCISCO -- Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier left the team for at least the next day or two after his wife went into labor with the couple's second child about a week ahead of schedule.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said he wasn't sure how long Ethier will be gone, but said there was no concern with the early labor. Garret Anderson was in the starting lineup in place of Ethier in right field on Saturday, but there was some chance the slumping Ethier would have been rested anyway because he is a left-handed hitter and the Dodgers were facing San Francisco lefty Barry Zito, against whom Ethier is just 5 for 26 in his career.
Ethier, a National League All-Star for the first time this season, is hitting just .135 (7 for 52) with 15 strikeouts since the All-Star break.
