Paul Rodriguez of Tarzana, Calif., won the skate park finals on Saturday at the Dew Tour's Wendy's Invitational. The final jam session in skate park came down to Dew Tour veterans Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, Chaz Ortiz, Greg Lutzka and Rodolfo Ramos along with Tour newcomer and Frenchman, Bastien Salabanzi.
It was Rodriguez's switch tricks and consistency that got him on top of the podium with an 86.40, pulling out his first Dew Tour win since 2008. In the final jam session, Rodriguez threw out a switch tre flip down the stairs, switch flip frontside boardslide down the rail and a switch backside tailslide down the rail. Twenty-five-year-old Greg Lutzka of Milwaukee, Wisc., came in second with an 85.83 and Chicago-native Chaz Ortiz, 16, finished third with an 85.38.
"I knew I had a lot of work coming out of Boston, so I'm just doing the best I can," said Rodriguez. "It feels great to be back on the podium at the Dew Tour; everything seemed to work out today. The Dew Cup is the goal, and we can start looking forward to the Championships."
Lutzka maintains his lead in the year-end Dew Tour standings with 190 points. Although Ryan Sheckler narrowly missed the podium finishing in fourth place, he remains in second place in the year-end Dew Cup standings with 166 points. With today's win, Rodriguez now sits in third place just two points behind Sheckler with 164 points.
