Source: Braylon Edwards' call returned

Roger Goodell has returned the call Braylon Edwards made to the NFL commissioner after he was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated, a league source said.

Shortly after the incident on Sept. 21, Edwards attempted a little self-intervention by calling Goodell -- only the commissioner didn't return the call that week.

Edwards' phone rang this past Monday and, yes, the commissioner was on the line, the source said.

The details of their conversation are private but it's known Goodell has intense disdain for any league employee, including players, who gets behind a wheel after consuming alcohol.

New York Jets wideout Santonio Holmes comes back Monday from a four-game suspension for violation of the substance abuse policy. Pending some legal outcomes, Edwards could be facing his own suspension before the season is out.
