David Hill joins board of U.S. Cup bid
NEW YORK -- Fox Sports chairman David Hill has joined ESPN executive vice president John Skipper on the board of the committee bidding to have the U.S. host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
Hill has been with Fox in the U.S. since 1993 and has been chairman of Fox Sports since 1999. Skipper joined the bid committee last December.
ESPN and Fox Soccer Channel largely have been responsible for the expansion of televised soccer in the U.S. in recent years.
Hill's addition was announced Tuesday.
FIFA's executive committee will vote Dec. 2 on the 2018 and 2022 hosts. Europe is the favorite for 2018, with England, Spain-Portugal, Russia and Netherlands-Belgium competing. The U.S. is the favorite for 2022, with Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea also bidding.
