Rookie Watch: Bucs' Williams a gem
By Matt Williamson
Mike Williams is a first-round talent who fell on draft day because of character concerns. But wow, can this guy play.
All the ability is there for Williams to be a true No. 1 wide receiver (a term I rarely use). In fact, Williams already might be at that level, and he is clearly the top gun in Tampa Bay's passing attack. Fellow rookie Arrelious Benn has flashed ability, and these two could make for an outstanding core of weapons for QB Josh Freeman in the coming years.
But Benn isn't even close to Williams as it stands today. With Williams' physicality, body control and deep-ball ability, he already commands a high amount of attention from opposing pass defenses. Tampa Bay has an outstanding young core to build around, and the team is already flourishing. Williams is a huge reason why.
