Duke women look to exact revenge on Texas A&M

No. 7 Texas A&M at No. 5 Duke, ESPN2

There's nothing more beautiful to an athlete or coach than the sight of a "0" in the right half of her team's record. The women of Texas A&M and Duke have a combined season mark of 14-0, but tonight, when the two teams meet in the ninth annual Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic, one will see its pristine record tarnished.

The Aggies are a perfect 3-0 all-time against Duke, including winning their season opener over the Blue Devils last year at Reed Arena. No doubt the defending ACC champion Blue Devils will be looking to exact some revenge on their home court tonight. After speaking with Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie at the presser for the tournament, Texas A&M coach Gary Blair expects Duke to come out guns blazing, saying: "Joanne told me that the 95 points we put on them last year is all they've talked about this summer."

To add a little more drama to the night, Texas A&M will make its Jimmy V tourney debut against a Duke team that's gone unbeaten in its three previous appearances in the event. The women's tournament, now in its ninth year, is part of "Jimmy V Week," an initiative to raise funds for cancer research that runs across multiple ESPN platforms. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, who was a legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and an ESPN commentator.
