Injured New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise won't skate before March and could miss the rest of the season, according to a Bergen (N.J.) Record report.

Parise underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus on Nov. 2, at which point it was determined that he would be sidelined for three months. That timetable would have had him returning to the ice in early February.

"I was really disappointed to find out that I won't be able to start skating until after I see [the doctor] again in March," Parise said in an e-mail to the Bergen Record.

"I didn't expect it to be this long, especially after he said how happy he was with it all so far. It's a long time to go without playing."

Perennial contenders in the Eastern Conference, the Devils have struggled mightily this season, residing in last place in the East with the worst record in the NHL at 9-23-2 (20 points).

Rookie coach John MacLean was fired Thursday, and Devils GM Lou Lamoriello brought Jacques Lemaire, who retired following the Devils' playoff elimination by the Washington Capitals last season, back behind the bench. The Devils lost 5-1 to the New York Islanders on Thursday in his return.
