B.C.-based Sandbox just dropped this exclusive behind the scenes mini doc on us showing what it really takes to work with two helicopters at the same time. (And, no, the answer's not a simple: money.) "Now You Know," their 2010 offering, is replete with high-end heli angles and, in some ways, we think these aerial shots show what the rider is going through in the air better than helmet cams do.
When you see filmer Clayton Larsen hanging out the side of a heli shooting this huge custom park jump built by Whistler-Blackcomb, it's hard to believe the second heli scenario "started as a joke." Sandbox honchos Kevin Sansalone and Larsen didn't even inform the riders there'd be a second heli so they all showed up to a day at the office with yet more pressure to land their tricks first try. Welcome to the big leagues...
We love seeing a grassroots company like Sandbox progressing their projects like this, moving from shooting in the park with "a ladder and a couple of flags" to handling the logistics of two helicopters flying close together in an alpine environment. Watch now »
