Unit Clothing adds Guettler as BMX TM

After six years with clothing brand Alpinestars, Beenleigh, Australia to Greenville, N.C. transplant Ryan Guettler has left the brand to ride for and team manage the BMX team for Unit Clothing. "I've always taken great pride in caring for riders when they come stay at my house, whether it's in Greenville or back home in Australia," said Guettler. "This is why I believe I would make a great TM/Pro Rider for Unit in 2011," he added.

Unit is also expanding outside of Australia, opening a new U.S.-based office in San Clemente, Calif. "In many ways Ryan's story is Unit's story, having been founded in a Gold Coast garage with $600, climbing to the top of the Australian action sports industry in five years, and now setting our sights on the USA market," said Unit founding director Paul Everest. "This is why we felt Ryan was a perfect fit for this role," he added.

Currently, Guettler is back at home in Australia, where he recently built up a new Colony complete bike after parting ways with longtime bike sponsor Mirraco in mid December.

Unit was founded in 2002 by brothers Paul and Ian Everest. Originally based in their parent's garage in Brisbane, Australia, Unit grew organically, selling t-shirts to local merchants retailers in their area. Inspired by a love of motocross and BMX, Unit eventually grew into a full-fledged operation sold throughout North America, Asia and Europe. Currently, Unit boasts a BMX team that includes Cam White, Nick Richardson, Nick Cooper, Jaie Toohey, Cam Pianta, Dane Searls, David Grisch and Tim Wood. Unit's offerings include full lines of clothing for men and women, as well as accessories, youth clothing and motocross safety gear.

Guettler thanked Alpinestars for his time with the brand, but is anxious for a new beginning with Unit. "I look forward to helping out the team riders and making Unit grow even bigger in 2011," he added.

Guettler's current sponsors include Colony, Vans, Pro-Tec, Monster Energy, Unit Clothing, Skullcandy and Kicker.
