Women's college basketball: Men's hoops took center stage over the weekend but not so tonight. Powerhouse No. 2 Connecticut (20-1) takes on unbeaten No. 3 Duke (20-0) at Gampel Pavilion. Duke has a history of dramatic games at UConn -- its last trip to Storrs in 2004 ended the Huskies' then 69-game home winning streak. Should be a great atmosphere tonight.
Men's college basketball: While tonight won't see an upset the size of St. John's-Duke proportions, there are a couple of important Top 25 matchups. No. 3 Texas looks to stay undefeated in Big 12 action as it travels to College Station to take on No. 16 Texas A&M. ... No. 13 Louisville travels to the nation's capital to take on No. 14 Georgetown. Louisville is coming off a double-overtime upset win over Connecticut on Saturday.
NBA: I referenced this in About Last Night, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are bad, really bad. As in losers of 20 straight bad. And tonight they have a good shot of keeping the streak alive as they take their lack of talent to South Beach to face a Miami team that's won 11 of its past 13 at home and has the Big Three all playing together for only the second time in three weeks. ... While the Carmelo Anthony-to-Nets trade officially died over a week ago, the reception Melo receives when his Nuggets play the Nets tonight in New Jersey should be mighty interesting.
If you don't like hoops, tonight can still be a good sports night. How about channeling your inner athlete and hitting the gym to get that body ready for the massive caloric consumption that is synonymous with Super Bowl Sunday? Just don't overload on the Black Eyed Peas while there. Or you can be like a friend of mine who turns down the volume of every sporting event and pretends like he's Jon Gruden, sport matters not. Just some ideas.
