Each week I'll write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• When Kansas coach Bill Self decided to suspend starting guard Tyshawn Taylor, it sent a clear message. I have said it many times that players have to be accountable for their actions. My friends, no matter what Taylor did, he let down his teammates and he did it late in the season when the Jayhawks should be focused first and foremost on the task at hand. Yes, Kansas won easily over Oklahoma State on Monday night, but the suspension is still a distraction.

• Texas had to suspend Alexis Wangmene for an off-court incident too. Here's another veteran player who used poor judgment and hurt his team late in the campaign.

Marshon Brooks put on quite a show Wednesday night. The Providence star scored 52 points, setting a Big East regular-season record but it was not enough in a loss to Notre Dame. My friends, that came against a ranked team and the Irish tried to stop him. With so many stars in the Big East, Brooks doesn't always get enough ink, baby! He will get some now, but it came in a loss.

• John Calipari will have to wait another game before gaining career win number 500. Kentucky lost another SEC road game, at Arkansas on Wednesday in a Maalox Masher. It was an overtime setback that had to give Calipari nightmares.

• Georgetown may have suffered a major blow when guard Chris Wright injured his hand against Cincinnati. The first report was the hand was broken and if he were to miss serious time, the Hoyas would be shorthanded going into the Big East tourney and the big dance.

• Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans got a huge win at Minnesota earlier this week. Kalin Lucas has been playing like the star of old lately and I believe Michigan State will be a tough out come tournament time.

• Texas was ranked 25th in the preseason ESPN/USA Today poll. That should tell you about the job Rick Barnes has done this season. The Longhorns have meshed as a unit this season and Jordan Hamilton has really developed.

• What kind of wacky season has it been in college hoops? There were 10 teams ranked in the preseason ESPN/USA Today top 25 that are currently unranked. Michigan State, Kansas State, Gonzaga, Baylor, Illinois, Washington, Butler, Memphis, Tennessee and Virginia Tech had high hopes and big expectations and several of these teams are simply battling to make it into the Big Dance.
