Huskies on the hunt

Women's college basketball: No. 1 Connecticut faces Rutgers tonight in the Big East semifinals in Hartford, Conn. The Huskies have won 12 straight Big East tournament games heading into tonight and they're 26-6 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, notching wins in the teams' last six meetings. Rutgers sophomore center Monique Oliver and junior forward April Sykes both put up 18 points in the Knights' 68-62 win over Marquette yesterday, while freshman center Stefanie Dolson led the way for the Huskies, netting a career-high 24 points in their 59-43 victory over Georgetown. ... The later game pits No. 8 Notre Dame against No. 13 DePaul for a spot the Big East tournament final. The two teams met just one week ago, in a barn burner that saw the Blue Demons come out on top 70-69. ... Out in Lowell, Mass., the sixth-ranked Xavier Muskateers look to defend their Atlantic 10 title tonight when they meet the Dayton Flyers, making their first conference title game appearance. The Flyers have the edge all-time, 31-29, but the Musketeers have won the last four and six of the last seven. ... In Bridgeport, Conn., No. 18 Marist takes on Loyola of Maryland for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, and Saint Mary's will battle No. 20 Gonzaga for the West Coast Conference title in Las Vegas.

NBA: The Hornets will have to face the white-hot Bulls tonight without star point guard Chris Paul, who left yesterday's win over the Cavs on a stretcher after suffering a concussion. The Bulls, meanwhile, are coming off a fantastic weekend that saw them knock off the Magic on Friday night and the Heat on Sunday. They'll look to win a ninth straight home game and beat New Orleans for a sixth consecutive time when the two teams meet at the United Center. ... The Magic will try to rebound from that loss to the Bulls but they'll be without their star as well. Dwight Howard will sit tonight when his team hosts the Blazers, serving an automatic one-game suspension after getting his 16th technical foul Friday night against Chicago. ... The Knicks will try to avoid a fifth straight loss to the Jazz when the teams meet at Madison Square Garden tonight. New York beat Atlanta yesterday 92-79, Utah is coming off a 109-102 win over Sacramento on Saturday. ... The Grizzlies look to clinch their season series with the Thunder as the teams meet tonight for the last time this regular season. Memphis is hoping to build off a 104-103 win over Dallas yesterday, a game in which Zach Randolph scored 27 points. Oklahoma City is looking to lean on their hot man, Russell Westbrook; he dropped 32 points and 11 assists on the Suns in a 122-118 overtime win yesterday.

NHL: Tonight the Capitals and the Lightning meet for the last time this regular season. Washington's four-game win streak, combined with Tampa Bay's three-game skid, has put the Capitals back on top in the Southeast for the first time in over two months. ... The Stars and the Kings play three times in the next four weeks, starting with tonight's tilt in Los Angeles. With 17 games to play apiece, the teams are separated by just one point in the Western Conference standings, with Dallas in seventh and the Kings hanging on to the eighth and final playoff spot.
