DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Cole Whitt set a track record to win his first career pole and edge Sprint Cup star Kasey Kahne in qualifying for the Camping World Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway.

The 19-year-old Whitt ran a lap of 173.933 mph to surpass the mark of 170.845 mph Timothy Peters set in leading qualifying at last year's Too Tough To Tame 200.

Kahne was second at 173.613 mph and will start alongside Whitt in Saturday evening's race.

Johnny Sauter was third, Matt Crafton fourth and Austin Dillon fifth. Ron Hornaday Jr. James Buescher, Elliott Sadler, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Jason White filled out the top 10.

Last year's Darlington winner Todd Bodine qualified 12th.
