Dodgers send down John Lindsey

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- John Lindsey, the career minor leaguer who became a fan favorite last season after the Dodgers called him up after 16 seasons, was reassigned to minor league camp Monday.

Lindsey remained on the Dodgers 40-man roster through the winter, but was plagued by a nagging calf injury during the first half of spring training.

"It's my fault," Lindsey said. "I got hurt and I just couldn't get on the field. It's harder to swallow this way though. It would've been easier if I'd had a great spring and they told me at the end of it that they just didn't have room for me.

"But I never really got out there and had much of a chance to swing it like I know I can swing it."

Lindsey had four at-bats this spring. He doubled off the wall in his first at-bat on March 7, but played in just three games before reinjuring the calf.

He was cleared Monday and travelled with the team to Suprise, Ariz. for its game against the Rangers, but did not get an at-bat.

"There's no use getting upset about it," Lindsey said. "I just have to go down there again, play like I can and hope that they need me sooner than later."

The Dodgers also optioned pitcher Javy Guerra and outfielders Jamie Hoffmann and Trayvon Robinson to minor league camp. Shortstop Dee Gordon and catcher Damaso Espino were also reassigned.
