Skylar Diggins, an All-American sophomore point guard for the nationally ranked Notre Dame women's basketball team, is blogging about her NCAA tournament experience for espnW.
It is two days after the selection show, and I have so many thoughts going through my head!
Monday was amazing. Our team invited our families, friends and fans over to watch the selection show with us. We had dinner and shared jokes while we waited for the show to start. Although we were all smiles, everyone could tell that we were all really anxious to see where we would end up. With our Irish gear on, leprechaun hats and all (yes, I wore one), we sat in a circle in front of the TV.
The first-region matchups started, and we noticed that Connecticut was the No. 1 seed. We figured that we weren't going to be in that region, seeing that we played them three times already. Baylor was the No. 1 seed in the next region. Once again, we felt like the committee was not going to place us in that region, either, but we didn't know!
As we sat there, our eyes glued to the TV, we noticed the comparison between Brittney Griner and me in relation to our height! It was so funny! Everyone in the room started laughing. It was a much-needed joke to loosen everyone up in the room. I didn't realize I was that short!
When our name was finally called, the room erupted! Everyone cheered and gave high-fives and hugs. I was so excited, I didn't even see who we were playing against! It was definitely a great feeling. We are a No. 2 seed headed to Salt Lake City in the Dayton Regional to play against Utah in the first round. We are so excited for the scenery and some great competition.
I have to say I'm pretty pleased with our pick! If we play hard, we'll have the opportunity to play close to home for all of our fans to come and cheer us on! I cannot wait for the tourney to get started
Win or go home!
