Hofstra men's basketball coach Mo Cassara has signed a new five-year contract running through the 2015-16 season, the school announced Thursday.

The Pride finished 21-12 overall in Cassara's first year at the helm and finished tied for second place in the Colonial Athletic Conference -- its highest-ever finish in the league.

Hofstra's 14-4 CAA record was two games better than VCU, which will play in the Final Four in Houston this weekend.

"Mo did an outstanding job this season in leading us to a second-place finish in arguably the greatest year in the Colonial Athletic Association's history," Hofstra athletic director Jack Hayes said in a statement released by the school. "He has proven his abilities as a coach and as a recruiter, and we're very excited about the program's future under his leadership."

Cassara became Hofstra's 11th coach in May when he replaced Tim Welsh, who resigned less than a month after taking the job.

Before going to Hofstra, Cassara was an assistant coach for four years at Boston College.
