Korey Lindsey drafted by Bengals
By Scott Powers
Southern Illinois senior cornerback Korey Lindsey felt like he was frozen in time after discovering he had been drafted No. 207 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
"I just broke down," Lindsey said. "I had no words. I couldn't move. I was just stuck. Tears couldn't stop flowing.
"It's an accomplishment that didn't seem possible. Now, I've finally climbed that mountain. I know it's just a starting point. I know I have a long way to go. To have this moment is indescribable."
Lindsey, who is 5-foot-10 and 182 pounds, had 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, seven pass break-ups and one quarterback hurry during his senior season for the Salukis. He finished with 14 interceptions in his career.
Southern Illinois has had two NFL draft picks in the past two years. Former running back Deji Karim was selected in the sixth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott and New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs also played at Southern Illinois.
"As you look back, we have a huge history at SIU of doing well and going on to do well," Lindsey said. "I want to continue that and keep that tradition going. I'm glad being a part of that."
