Jo-Jo Reyes equals winless start record

NEW YORK -- The Blue Jays' Jo-Jo Reyes matched a major league record Wednesday by making his 28th consecutive start without recording a win.

Reyes was pulled after the third inning of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees with Toronto trailing 5-0. The left-hander allowed all five runs on five hits and two walks, including two-run homers by Andruw Jones and Mark Teixeira.

"I'm not worried about that streak," Reyes said. "When I step on the rubber, all I'm worried about is executing the pitch."

Reyes hasn't won a game since June 13, 2008, when he beat the Los Angeles Angels as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

Matt Keough of the Athletics set the record for consecutive starts without a win from Sept. 6, 1978, to Aug. 8, 1979. Keough pitched a complete game in his next start on Sept. 5, breaking the streak with a 6-1 victory over the Brewers.

"Jo-Jo wasn't as sharp as he's been. He didn't have a consistent location or a consistent command and it cost him," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "Regardless if it's a guy coming off of the bench for them, like Jones, they have a potent lineup."
