NBA: Led by Dirk Nowitzki, who scored Dallas' final nine points, the Mavericks rallied from a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit in Miami on Thursday to stun the Heat 95-93 and even the NBA Finals at one game apiece. Nowitzki's late-game heroics included making two left-handed baskets despite a torn ligament in the middle finger on that hand. Miami got 36 points from Dwyane Wade and 20 from LeBron James, but lost for the first time in 10 home games this postseason. The series moves to Dallas for Game 3 on Sunday.
French Open: The resurgent run of Russia's Maria Sharapova came to an ignominious end in Thursday's semifinals, as the three-time Grand Slam champion double-faulted 10 times, including on match point, to lose 6-4, 7-5 to No. 6 seed Li Na. With the victory, Li qualified for her second consecutive major final and became the first Chinese player in history to reach the final round at Roland Garros. Li's opponent in Saturday's championship match will be defending champion Francesca Schiavone, who beat Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday. Schiavone, a 30-year-old Italian, is seeking to become the first woman to win back-to-back French Open titles since Justine Henin won three straight from 2005 to 2007.
MLB: In a radio interview on Thursday, San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean blasted Florida Marlins outfielder Scott Cousins for his "malicious" home plate collision with Giants catcher Buster Posey on May 25. The collision resulted in a season-ending broken leg for the 2010 NL Rookie of the Year. ... Major League Baseball said it has banned Yuri Sucart, a cousin of Alex Rodriguez, from restricted areas including clubhouses and team charters, but can do nothing to prohibit Sucart from seeing A-Rod in public places like hotel lobbies. In 2009 the Yankees slugger said his cousin had helped him obtain and inject performance-enhancing drugs in the past. ... Hall of Famer Gary Carter, 57, is set to begin treatment for glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, his daughter wrote on a private family website.
