Brian Urlacher touts Plaxico Burress
CHICAGO -- Brian Urlacher said he would welcome Plaxico Burress on the Chicago Bears, and he didn't envision how the move would generate any negative energy in the locker room.
Burress, 33, last played in August, 2008. He served nearly two years for carrying an unlicensed gun after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh. He'll be a free agent when the NFL labor problems are resolved.
"Heck yeah," Urlacher said Thursday on ESPN 1000's "The Waddle & Silvy Show," when asked if he would welcome Burress. "We've never had a problem with any players in our locker room, no matter who they are."
Burress was the No. 8 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2000, and Urlacher went one pick later to the Bears.
"He's not going to hurt you," Urlacher said. "You've seen what he's done throughout his career.
"I'm a big fan of his. Always been a big fan of his, football-wise. Every time he plays against us, he gives us fits. He's a tough matchup for any corner. He's a big guy [6-foot-5, 232 pounds], good red-zone guy. I don't know how fast he is, but that doesn't really matter when you're that good."
