CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney said he expects to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.
Barney was placed on the 15-day DL after spraining his left knee when sliding head first into home on June 13 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Barney has been wearing a brace on his knee during his rehab stint with the Cubs' Triple-A team and is expected to keep using it upon his return to the big leagues. While Barney says the brace doesn't impede his ability to play, he says he knows it's there.
Barney is hitting .294 on the season and was thought to be a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year at the time of his injury.Sahadev Sharma covers the Cubs and White Sox for ESPNChicago.com.
