Vans X Cult Shoes ($55-$60)

The Vans X Cult Atwood Mid shoe.

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest fan of collaborations. I understand the appeal of two brands working together to produce a limited edition product, and the allure it creates. But it's difficult for me to get past the idea that a certain number of people hide the collaboration in their closet for the immediate future and sell it later on eBay. Luckily, when Cult Bikes decided to collaborate with Vans Footwear, they produced quality, aesthetically pleasing shoes meant to be ridden in and not hoarded in a closet. Enter the Vans X Cult Brasco and Atwood Mid.

Teaming up with Cult, Vans produced two Cult-influenced shoe models. The Brasco is a low top, featuring a leather upper, Cult graphic insole and tongue label, Vans' Megathane midsole and Vans' trusted waffle outsole. The Atwood Mid is a mid-top, with the same features as the Brasco, only slightly higher. "We've chosen two footwear styles that include the performance features needed for riding, but also represent today's casual styling that work well off the bike. Both shoes are wrapped in high-end black leather and use a waxed textile on accent panels for a rich look and feel. The vulcanized outsole and gum-colored WaffleGrip tread is a direct tie back to Vans heritage, while the sockliner artwork is a CVLT original that ties back to the CVLT attitude," says Vans.

The Vans and Cult teams share more than a few team riders, who are actually riding in these shoes, jumping down huge things and able to walk comfortably at the end of the day. "Dakota Roche and Chase Hawk are two riders that we share (sponsor-wise), and they've been wearing the shoes quite a bit, and they're holding up great," says Cult's Robbie Morales. But there's more than Dak and Chase. Cult team riders Bas Keep and Trey Jones also rock the shoes, along with Morales. I got a pair last week, but I gave them to the guys at the bike shop, and they seem to like them okay.

The Vans x Cult collection is available directly from Vans here and here. And if you wanna pick them up via a BMX mail-order, you can also purchase them at Empire BMX.
