Summer is halfway over at Mount Hood, but you wouldn't know it from the amount of snow that is covering the glacier. (Or from the wet weather, but who can complain when there's still enough snow to take top-to-bottom laps in July?) At Windells Snowboard Camp, Head Digger Chase Weaver and his crew have been spending countless hours raking and salting, in order to produce a summertime park that lives up to the name "funnest place on Earth." The Diggers' efforts seem to be paying off, as talented boarders are swarming the Windells lane faster than they descend on an open tab at Charlie's.
To get their midsummer snowboard fix, Stevie Bell, Nick Visconti, Jason Robinson, Brandon Cocard, and Curtis Woodman spent last week at the mountain, searching out tubes, tranny finders, and slush slashes. The results are in the video above, a small taste of the (usually) warmer side of snowboarding at Mount Hood.
"Even in a damp summer," says Visconti, "the best part about Hood Life is shredding with your friends ... in summer."
