BALTIMORE -- It appears Boston Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis will not play for the remainder of the regular season.
He's been dealing with hip bursitis along with a sports hernia and remains "pretty sore," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
When asked if Youkilis would be available the next three games, Francona said, "I don't think so. Youk's trying so damn hard, but he's pretty sore. He did some light running (Sunday) and he's pretty sore. I don't think we've pulled the plug, but being realistic, we're fighting an uphill battle."Joe McDonald covers the Red Sox for ESPNBoston.com.
