Carmelo Anthony stumps for Chris Paul
Carmelo Anthony is looking for the last piece to complete a New York Knicks "Big Three."
The All-Star forward said Thursday that he would love to see New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul in a Knicks uniform.
"If it works out and he comes here and they allow him to come here, you'll see a smile from ear to ear," Anthony said, according to the New York Post. "It's not just me. It's everybody [in New York]. If he decides to leave New Orleans and goes somewhere else, they'll be feeling the same way I'm feeling."
Paul can become a free agent after this season, and with Miami setting the trend by combining Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh, Anthony would love to team himself, Paul and big man Amare Stoudemire.
Anthony and Paul have played together on exhibition teams during the NBA lockout and could do it again for a New York-area game around Thanksgiving.
"It's fun," Anthony said, according to the Post. "He's such a competitor, even in games we play now. He wants the games to be NBA games -- the intensity level. He wants everybody to go out and compete. It's something I've really enjoyed."
Anthony said Paul has been spending a lot of time in New York, but he's not recruiting.
"He spent a lot of time here last year, too, but people weren't hearing about it because there was a lot of [other stuff] going on," Anthony said. "But we don't talk about [the Knicks]. ... I'm not one to blow smoke up your [butt]. If I was talking to Chris about coming to New York, I'd tell you. It's a sensitive situation for him. I stay away from it and we have fun."
The Knicks lost to the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs last season after acquiring Anthony in February. Paul's Hornets also lost in the first round, to the Lakers.
