|Cairo Foster might have some new shoes on but his feet are still doing the same ripping as always.|
Amidst the ever-changing landscape of skateboarding team rosters it's rare to find guys that stay their entire careers with one particular board or shoe brand. Maybe it's not as uncommon as it is in mainstream sports but skaters that stay with one sponsor for their career-length are still few and far between. I pictured Cairo Foster to be with Lakai shoes until he was done skating professionally; he was there since day one and I just assumed that's where he'd stay. But recently it was announced that Cairo switched to Etnies to lend his veteran work ethic towards helping the brand reestablish its identity.
Last week the Etnies team rolled through the East Coast and made a stop at NJ Skateshop in Sayreville, New Jersey. While young girls fawned over the heartthrob that is Ryan Sheckler, Cairo worked the crowd doing his due diligence to shake hands, kiss babies and have meaningful conversations with young skate rats. The next morning while the rest of the team slept in after a long night at Hooters (aside from Jose Rojo, whose interview will follow here on ESPN Skateboarding soon), Cairo was at my house promptly at 10 am to skate my ledge and to sit down and discuss his recent team change, the next Enjoi video and AARP.
