Monday is a big night for Jeremy Piven, who will attend the premiere of "I Melt With You," a movie about four college buddies who reunite and reminisce.
But it's not big enough that he'll miss his Chicago Bears playing on "Monday Night Football" against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I can't believe you're telling everybody this," said Piven, who was born in New York but really is a Chicagoan, as he was raised in Evanston, Ill. "I was going to try to sneak out a little and watch some of that game. Those are my Bears."
"I Melt With You," which will open nationwide in December, is about Ron (Piven), Richard (Thomas Jane), Jonathan (Rob Lowe) and Tim (Christian McKay) -- old college friends who gather annually for a week to celebrate their friendship and catch up on one another's lives. They seem like typical men in their 40s -- all with careers, families and enormous responsibilities -- but as with most people, there is a lot more beneath the surface.
"It's like we're this team and we go over our lives together," said Piven, known for his role as Ari Gold on "Entourage" on HBO. "It was so natural to do this movie with these guys. We could all relate to the characters."
So it wouldn't surprise anyone that Piven, who is a monster sports fan, would bolt to watch his team. He rattles on ...
"The Eagles don't realize how quick Julius Peppers is. ... I'm friends with Brian Urlacher, and I really need to get to a game. ... I remember the 1985 Bears like it was yesterday. ... The fan base there is so authentic. ... I would love to own a piece of those Bears. ... My greatest memories are watching the Bears.
Jane, who has been in movies for 25 years, thinks that Piven is a little dramatic and easily can listen along to the game while sitting through the premiere.
"Hasn't he ever heard of earbuds on your iPhone or something? Or even a Bluetooth?" Jane said. "He could just be sitting nodding along to the screen while listening to the game! That's easy."
