Luke Donald's father dies suddenly
By Michael Collins
Colin Donald, the father of world No. 1 golfer Luke Donald, died suddenly Monday night, Luke Donald's representatives at IMG Golf said Tuesday.
Additional details were not immediately available.
Luke Donald was at home in Chicago this weekend with his wife, awaiting the birth of their second child. He did not play in last week's WGC-HSBC Shanghai Open.
Donald is attempting to become the first player in history to win both the PGA Tour's money list and the European Tour's Order of Merit.
He is a front-runner to win the PGA Tour's Player of the Year award, with two titles this season, at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. He leads the PGA Tour in scoring average (68.86) and has finished inside the top ten in 14 of his 19 starts.
On the European Tour's Race to Dubai, Donald holds a $1.4 million lead over Martin Kaymer, who won last week's WGC event. Neither Donald or Kaymer are playing this week.
