Robert Carter, ranked No. 21 in the ESPNU 100 for 2012, has decided to play at Georgia Tech for new coach Brian Gregory.

Carter (Snellville, Ga./Shiloh), a 6-foot-8 forward who wanted to stay close to home, had Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech as his finalists.

"I have a big family -- six sisters and one brother -- and my entire family is in the state of Georgia. My heart just felt Georgia Tech was right for me," Carter said.

Since Gregory took over at Georgia Tech, he and his staff have made recruiting in Georgia a priority. It has paid off, as the Yellow Jackets already have pledges from Marcus Hunt (Riverdale, Ga./North Clayton), who is ranked 59th in the ESPNU 100 and Chris Bolden (Norcross, Ga./North Gwinnett).

"If we work hard and stay together, we have a chance to do something special," Carter said of the recruiting class.

Gregory and his staff made Carter a priority and zeroed in on him in the spring, but really couldn't follow him until the summer.

"They were at almost every one of my games this summer. It showed me I was important to the program," Carter said.
