The Lady Bears asserted their ranking after beating the then-No. 2 Fighting Irish 94-81 in the WNIT championship game Sunday. Baylor star Brittney Griner made 14 of 18 shots for 32 points, along with
14 rebounds and six blocked shots for her 29th career double-double and third this season.
Baylor, which received 29 of 31 first-place votes, will face Tennessee this weekend. The Lady Vols, ranked No. 3 last week, dropped to No. 7 after losing in overtime to Virginia 69-64 Sunday.
Connecticut, which moved up one spot to No. 2, defeated No. 5 Stanford Monday night 68-58 in Hartford. Freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 25 points and provided the offensive spark when the rest of her teammates had trouble generating points in the first half.
Notre Dame dropped just one spot to No. 3. Texas A&M,
ranked No. 6 last week, is No. 4 after three convincing victories, including a 76-58 win against Louisville, which dropped two spots to No. 12.
Duke, Tennessee, Maryland, Miami (Fla.) and Georgia round out the top 10.
