Since making the move to Southern California last month, I haven't had too much time to get out and reconnect with the tons of BMX riders in the area that I've come to know throughout the years. This past weekend, the One Love Jam changed all that. Organized by Darin Wright and Shayne Khajehnoori, the One Love Jam brought flatland riders from across the country to an empty parking lot in Malibu for a relaxed day of riding.
Riders on hand ranged from newer pros such as Stephen Hearn and Cory Fester to a ragtag crew of veteran flatland riders that included Dylan Worsely, Day Smith, Gabe Weed, sean McKinney and myself. For all intents and purposes, the flatland scene is tight enough that it reaches beyond generational barriers and just allows a bunch of people with the same common interest to get together have fun in a parking lot. It's been that way for a long time now, and the 2012 One Love Jam was a brilliant reminder that things haven't changed.
