LaVallee broke the tibia in his left leg Jan. 12, and Bodin suffered a fractured vertebra Jan. 14 but did not sustain any spinal cord damage and has full movement, according to a news release from Team LaVallee Inc. Bodin and LaVallee expect to make a full recovery, the release stated, but will miss the remainder of the snow season.
"We were both trying different tricks and for mine, my feet ended up separating from my machine during the trick and when I landed, I broke my leg on impact. For Daniel -- I obviously wasn't there -- but from what I hear, it looked like the sled got away from him a little bit and unfortunately he landed into the pit first and the sled came into the pit second" LaVallee said.LaVallee was released from Minneapolis hospital Tuesday and Bodin was released from a different Minneapolis hospital Wednesday evening, according to Team LaVallee. "I'm super bummed about Daniel and I getting hurt," LaVallee said in the release. "I was riding on a high after my record distance jump on New Year's Eve and was pumped for Winter X. And Daniel was working hard to defend his gold medals from last year. I love our sport but it can be cruel sometimes. We will both be back as soon as possible."
Bodin won gold medals in the best trick and freestyle snowmobile events at last year's Winter X Games 15.
