PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Honda, the longest-running sponsor on the PGA Tour, has renewed its agreement for another four years, pushing its commitment to the Florida tournament through 2016.

The current contract was due to expire after this week's tournament at PGA National, which begins Thursday. Honda began sponsoring the tournament in 1982 and has seen the event move to various South Florida venues until it settled into the Palm Beach Gardens venue in 2007.

That year, the tournament also became associated with Jack Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, whose Children's Healthcare Charity Inc. became the main beneficiary.

The tournament began in 1972 as the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic. Nicklaus is the only back-to-back champion of the event (1977-78).
