Michael Chandler's next fight set
By Franklin McNeil ESPN.com
Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler will face veteran Akihiro Gono in a nontitle bout May 4 in Rama, Ontario, the promotion announced Wednesday.
Chandler will be fighting for the first time since winning the 155-pound title from Eddie Alvarez on Nov. 19 via fourth-round submission.
"I'm just excited to get back in the cage," said Chandler, who is 9-0. "I fought four times in 2011 and I'm ready to get back to work. Gono has beaten some of the best fighters in the sport and this should be a good test for me."
The 37-year-old Gomo, a veteran of Pride and UFC, is 32-17-7. He has lost two fights in a row.
Gomo has faced some of the highest-profile fighters in mixed martial arts during his career, including Dan Henderson, Jon Fitch, Chael Sonnen, Gegard Mousasi and Dan Hardy.
