Stewart wins Daytona Supercross

This was James Stewart's second win at the Daytona International Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- James Stewart raced to his second career Daytona Supercross victory Saturday night on a muddy rain-soaked course at Daytona International Speedway.

Stewart, the Yamaha rider from Haines City, Fla., slipped past Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Davi Millsaps on the third lap and dominated the rest of the 16-lap event to win by 7.572 seconds.

"It means a lot," said Stewart, also the Daytona Supercross winner in 2007. "I felt good all day. I was fastest in practice. Once I got in front, I was just trying to survive."

Millsaps was second, and Honda's Kevin Windham finished third.

Because of the muddy conditions, AMA shortened the Supercross main event by four laps and the Lites main event by three laps.

Stewart also won in January in Oakland.

Ryan Villopoto, the 2010 and 2011 Daytona Supercross champion and current AMA Supercross points leader, fell during the first corners of the race and salvaged a fifth-place finish.

Villopoto maintained a 29-point lead in the season standings over Ryan Dungey, the KTM rider who sat out the race after undergoing surgery to repair a broken collarbone.
