Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA has hired Joel McGormley as the first managing director of its infractions committees. He will start the new job June 4.

NCAA executive vice president Donald Remy announced the move Friday. McGormley will oversee the staffs of the various infractions committees, which determines punishments for rule violations.

McGormley has spent the past 12 years as an assistant attorney general in Michigan. He is currently in charge of coordinating criminal appeals for 56 counties. Before taking over as head of the state's appellate division, he handled civil litigation, appeals and administrative cases for the state.

He graduated from Miami (Ohio) and earned his law degree from Toledo.
