For the past two winters, Candide Thovex has been hard at work filming a feature-length movie with his sponsor Quiksilver. The film, which is debuting this fall, now has a name: "Few Words." The video above is the first official trailer for the film.
"I've always been passionate about directing," Thovex says, "and I've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time."
"Few Words" follows Thovex's career from his upbringing in La Clusaz, France, to his contest victories, to the nearly career-ending back injury he sustained in 2007. The film is edited by New Zealand's Matt Pain from Process Films. It was shot in locations around the world, including the U.S., Canada, Austria, Switzerland, France, Chile and beyond.

The world premiere of the movie will take place in Paris, France, in October, after which Thovex and the film crew will set out on an international movie tour. The film will be available for download on iTunes and DVDs will be sold in Quiksilver stores.
Thovex has had a long and successful career on the competition side of freeskiing: He won Winter X Games gold medals in Big Air (2000), SuperPipe (2003) and Slopestyle (2007), and in 2010, he won big mountain competitions including the Red Bull Linecatcher and the overall title on the Freeride World Tour. But the past two years, he's put contests aside to focus on filming.
"I had some great times doing competitions, but I have always been more into making movies because making movies is more about art and expressing yourself in a creative way," Thovex says.
Although Thovex has been the star and director of the popular Candide Kamera online video series, this is his first major feature-length film.
