Bears sign 3 defensive players
By Jeff Dickerson
CHICAGO -- After saying on draft weekend that he would look for help at defensive tackle via free agency, Bears general manager Phil Emery on Friday announced the signings of John McCargo and DeMario Pressley, plus defensive end Cheta Ozougwu, to one-year contracts.
The additions of the three are expected to fill the voids left by the offseason departures of Amobi Okoye and Anthony Adams.
The Bears worked out McCargo, Pressley and Ozougwu Thursday at Halas Hall.
McCargo is a former 2006 first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills who spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A career backup, McCargo has 52 tackles and 2½ sacks in six NFL seasons.
Pressley has played for several teams since being drafted in the fifth round in 2008 by the New Orleans Saints. He saw action in seven games in 2009 for the Saints, then appeared in one game last year while in Carolina. He's also spent time with the Colts and Broncos.
Ozougwu was taken by Houston with the final pick in the 2011 draft but failed to make either the Texans' final roster or practice squad.
