Keep eye on Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts
SAN FRANCISCO -- Nicolas Colsaerts, a 29-year-old Belgian, is a making a jump up the leaderboard Friday morning. Starting his round on the 9th hole, he had three birdies in his first 10 holes to get to even par for the tournament after an opening-round, 2-over-par 72.
One of the longest hitters on the European Tour, Colsaerts won the Volvo World Match Play in May with a 1-up win against Graeme McDowell. Before defeating McDowell, Colsaerts beat Justin Rose, Brandt Snedeker, Paul Lawrie, and Charl Schwartzel.
Colsaerts could be a giant-killer this week at Olympic. It's too early to predict where he'll be by Friday afternoon on the leaderboard, but his star is rising.
