Webb Simpson to skip British Open

Webb Simpson will opt out of a shot at becoming the seventh man to win the U.S. Open and British Open in the same year in order to await the birth of his second child with wife, Dowd, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.
"After winning, it's certainly a little bit harder to not go," Simpson told reporters at the Travelers Championship, according to the newspaper. "But in the grand scheme of life, it's a decision I know I'll always be happy I made."
Dowd Simpson is due to give birth in late July. If Simpson opted to play the British Open July 19-22, he would risk being unable to return from Royal Lytham & St. Annes quickly in the event of early labor.
The couple's first child, James, who is now 16 months, arrived before his due date. Simpson said the couple have talked about inducing labor a week early so Webb can play in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Aug. 2-5.
