SPORTS AND MUSIC HAVE A LONG, OFTEN QUESTIONABLE HISTORY OF INTERBREEDING. THE COLLISION OF THOSE WORLDS MAY NOT ALWAYS BE ENJOYABLE TO SEE OR HEAR, BUT IT'S ALWAYS A GAS TO LOOK AT.

BANDS NAMED AFTER ATHLETESMUSICIANS WHO HAVE A STAKE IN A TEAM

Forget record sales or Grammys. The mark of a successful musician is ownership of a sports team in which they have negligible involvement.

JAY-Z|New Jersey Nets

ELTON JOHN|Watford FC English soccer club

NICK LACHEY|Tacoma Rainiers Triple-A baseball

NELLY|Charlotte Bobcats

USHER|Cleveland Cavaliers

MICHELLE WILLIAMS|Chicago Sky WNBA

ROBBIE WILLIAMS|Port Vale FC English soccer club

MARC ANTHONY|Miami Dolphins

JIMMY BUFFETT|Miami Dolphins

GLORIA ESTEFAN|Miami Dolphins

FERGIE|Miami Dolphins

JENNIFER LOPEZ|Miami Dolphins

Q&A: STEPHEN ROSS Principal owner MIAMI DOLPHINS

You've got a supergroup of part owners. How involved are they in running the team? They enhance the Dolphins brand. For example, Gloria Estefan is a leader in the Latin community, and she's helped us show how involved we are with those groups.

But did you discuss the Brandon Marshall deal with them? They're not making football decisions, no. To think a musician is going to make you put a better team on the field no one expects that. But fans say, "Before they got involved, I couldn't get my wife or kids to go to games." That's important. We want to reach the whole family.

RECORDS RELEASED BY ATHLETES*

Okay, 1,000 units sold might not seem like a lot. Then again, your average singer-songwriter wouldn't have much luck as an NFL tight end, would he?

Q&A: ANDREW ZITELLI AND PETER BOTHUM Co-founders of Von Hayes

Why did you name your band after an obscure Phillie?

ANDREW: We were both in bands that had taken themselves too seriously. So we said, "Let's do whatever we want." Peter is a Phillies fan, so he wanted to do it as an homage. I'm a Mets fan, so I wanted to do it as a goof.

PETER: There was one game Hayes hit two homers in an inning against the '85 Mets. Remembering that was like in Back to the Future when the DeLorean gets the surge from the clocktower. It was the moment for us.

ANDREW: We love talking about old guys people have forgotten. I'd have liked to go with an '80s Met, but besides maybe Tim Teufel, none compare. There's nothing like making fun of Hayes on a daily basis.
