ESPN.com news services

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers activated star outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier from the disabled list Friday, and optioned outfielders Elian Herrera and Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Kemp went 2-for-4 with a double in the Dodgers' 2-1 win over the Padres, while Ethier was 0 for 2 and was hit by a pitch.

Kemp, hitting .355 with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs, missed 51 of the Dodgers' previous 53 games because of a left hamstring strain. They were 24-27 in his absence.

Kemp appeared in six rehab games with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga and Albuquerque, then participated in the Home Run Derby on Monday. But he sat out the All-Star game after being voted as one of the starting outfielders.

Ethier batting .291 with 10 homers and a team-high 55 RBIs, had been sidelined since June 28 because of an oblique strain on his left side. He had a two-game rehab stint with Rancho Cucamonga.

Herrera, who has started at five different positions with the Dodgers, was batting .243 with a homer and 16 RBI in 51 games. Van Slyke was hitting .167 with two home runs and seven RBI in 27 games with Los Angeles.
