We will amend the SS Division affiliations, where needed, once the data becomes available.

Rank: #83
Team: Birmingham Patriots
CIF Section: L.A. City
State Division: 1
League: West Valley
Head Coach: Scott King
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #2, #3, #4, #6
Top Returnees: Ryan Alexander, Soph. (16:14/City Finals, 9:57.50/3200); Luis Solano, Sr. (16:40/City Finals)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 7th at L.A. City Section Finals
Team Outlook for 2012: Veteran coach Scott King took an abrupt leave of absence in the middle of track season but will reportedly be on board to handle the reins this fall. With L.A. City Section title contender Ryan Alexander leading, the group could be the class of the L.A. City Section this fall if it can match its best cumulative individual showings of a year ago. The Patriots struggled at the City Finals, however, so we'll see if the pieces fit nicely together come championship time.

Rank: #84
Team: Clovis Cougars
CIF Section: Central
State Division: 1
League: TRAC
Head Coach: Rob Brenner
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #3, #4, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Corey Matteson, Sr. (16:11/state, 9:48.74/3200); Connor Morello, Soph. (16:52/state, 1:59.53/800); Ryan Walker, Sr. (16:59/state, 9:48.36/3200)
Team Finish in 2011: In a nerve-racking experience, the Cougars barely qualified for the state meet when only five team members completed the race at the Central Section Finals, where it placed third. The squad then rebounded to finish 19th among 22 teams at state.
Team Outlook for 2012: With five returnees, the squad should be stronger than last year. Corey Matteson is the proven top returnee, but look for sophomore Connor Morello to provide quality support. A critical area for Clovis will be managing a way to slice the gap between its top three scorers and its next two. At least one promising freshman should be a welcome addition to the roster this fall as well.

Rank: #85
Team: St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots
CIF Section: North Coast
State Division: 5
League: Bay Shore Athletic
Head Coach: Tony Fong
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Gabe Arias, Jr. (16:04/state); Louis Rodriguez, Sr. (16:45/state, 4:25.09/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 3rd at state in Division 5
Team Outlook for 2012: The Pilots need to find a way to replace 2011 Division V bronze medalist and team leader Nick Ratto (now at UC Davis) from a squad that made the podium in Fresno. The great news is that Gabe Arias appears to be regaining his pre-stress fracture form while Coach Tony Fong reports that Louis Rodriguez has made big inroads thus summer and has been chased by an eager support crew.

Rank: #86
Team: Corona del Mar Sea Kings
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 3
League: Pacific Coast
Head Coach: Bill Sumner
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #2, #3, #4, #5, #6
Top Returnees: Spencer Keith, Jr. (16:04/SS Finals, 9:52.74); Teddy Parks, Sr. (16:34/SS Finals, 4:25.69/1600); Reid Meckler, Sr. (16:37/SS Finals, 4:23.94/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 14th in SS Division 3 Finals
Team Outlook for 2012: It used to be the Sea Kings were always a lock for a Top 10 CIF Finish and be a quality challenger for a state meet berth, so it's no surprise that veteran coach Bill Sumner expects the crew to be a step faster this year after an uncharacteristic 14th-place finish a year ago. CdM brandishes a solid lead trio for Division 3, with Spencer Keith, Reid Meckler and Teddy Parks each achieving success in track as well. Greg May could be a key contributor as well.

Rank: #87
Team: Beverly Hills Normans
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 3
League: Ocean
Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #2, #3, #4, #5, #7
Top Returnees: Eli Flesch, Sr. (16:16/SS Finals, 9:52.17/3200); Aaron Karlin, Jr. (16:22/SS Finals); Chanan Batra, Sr. (16:26/SS Finals, 4:28.85/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 13th in SS Division 3 Finals
Outlook for 2012: The Normans program has been on an upswing in recent years, including a CIF Finals berth last fall, and appear set to continue the tradition. The lead trio of Eli Flesch, Aaron Karlin and Chanan Batra are a quality starting point to fuel a likely league title run, but its depth will need to be improved. Among those being counted on is Alex Rohani, a varsity returnee whose known more as a sprinter after winning the state 400-meter title in track last spring.

Rank: #88
Team: Miramonte Matadors
CIF Section: North Coast
State Division: 3
League: Diablo Foothill
Head Coach: Chris Henderson
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #3, #6
Top Returnees: Tyler Hanson, Sr. (15:59/state, 9:25.92/3200); Dillon Read, Sr. (16:12/state); Mark Tamminga, Sr. (4:28.91/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 9th at state in Division 3
Team Outlook for 2012: Despite several key graduation losses and questions regarding its depth, the Matadors sport an excellent 1-2 punch in Tyler Hanson and Dillon Read. The real key will be how the 'promoted' newcomers handle the challenge and stress of the varsity-level wars.

Rank: #89
Team: Chico Panthers
CIF Section: Northern
State Division: 3
League: Eastern Athletic
Head Coach: Kevin Girt
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7
Top Returnees: Chris Midkiff, Sr. (16:15/state); Nimai Buroz, Sr. (16:52/state, 4:28.93/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Northern Section Champions; 17th at state in Division 3
Team Outlook for 2012: Led by Northern Section divisional individual title contender Chris Midkiff, the Panthers have a solid shot at finishing in the top half of the division at state this fall. Nimai Buroz and Andris Molina are fresh off successful track campaigns and will be vital if Chico is to rise to the top of the Northern Section heap.

Rank: #90
Team: Alameda Hornets
CIF Section: North Coast
State Division: 2
League: ACCAL
Head Coach: Nino Hernandez
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6
Top Returnees: Cameron Tu (16:28/state), Jr.; Duc Nguyen, Sr. (16:47/state, 9:42.55/3200); Steven Carlson, Sr. (4:23.65/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: The Hornets earned the third and final berth to state from NCS Division 2, then placed 22nd out of 22 teams at the state meet. Team Outlook for 2012: Finishing last at the state meet might seem humbling, but the squad was quite young and all six finishers from that meet a year ago return this fall. Steven Carlson broke 4:24 for 1600m in track while Nguyen shined across 3200. If those two and Cameron Tu can all click on the same day, it could go a long way in sparking the Hornets to the North Coast Section title.

Rank: #91
Team: Salesian Mustangs
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 4
League: Santa Fe
Head Coach: Justin Torres
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #5, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Angel Barranco, Sr. (16:00/state, 4:32.24/mile, 9:55.30/3200); Jonathan Estrada, Sr. (16:58, 9:44.19/3200)
Team Finish in 2011: Southern Section champions and state runner-up in Division 4.
Team Outlook for 2012: It was a true return to the glory days for the stories Los Angeles-based program last season, rallying for a come-from-behind win at the SS Divisional Finals before placing second at the state meet. The Mustangs could prove to be just as good in 2012 as Angel Barranco and Jonathan Estrada could be the division's best font-running duo in the Southern Section. Developing depth will be key.

Rank: #92
Team: McFarland Cougars
CIF Section: Central
State Division: 2
League: East Sierra
Head Coach: Joel Lopez
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #2, #3, #4, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Erik Garcia (17:12/state); Danny Garcia (9:43.19/3200m)
Team Finish in 2011: Second at Central Section Finals, 20th at state.
Team Outlook for 2012: After seeing their state-leading active streak of 20 section titles in a row end last fall, the task gets no easier for the Cougars this year. Defending champion Shafter was already stacked while McFarland graduated its top runner, but it appears McFarland will move up to Division 2. Erik Garcia is the program's veteran and will need to provide quality leadership as the group seeks to regain the section title.

Senior Jeff Thies, far right, seeks to lead Edison HS into the postseason wars.

Rank: #93
Team: Edison Chargers
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 1
League: Sunset
Head Coach: Brian Brierly
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #3, #4, #5
Top Returnees: Jeff Thies, Sr. (14:43/SS Prelims rain course, 9:17.39/3200); Cooper Kossick, Soph. (15:33/SS prelims RC, 4:26.86/1:59.73); Nathan Ritter, Sr. (16:01 SS Prelims RC)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 9th in its heat at SS Division 1 Prelims.
Team Outlook for 2012: The Chargers should be dramatically improved this season with a powerful 1-2 punch on top. Jeff Thies stormed to staggering improvement across 3200 meters last spring to arrive here as among the hottest young talents, with Cooper Kossick primed for his own breakthrough on the trails fresh off a sparkling frosh track. Depth will be an issue and Edison absolutely needs to avoid injuries to reach CIF Finals, which is a tough but realistic goal.

Rank: #94
Team: Royal Highlanders
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 2
League: Marmonte
Head Coach: Ryan Luce
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale:
#1, #3, #4, #5, #7
Top Returnees: Ryan Klachko, Jr. (15:42 SS Prelims rain course); Tommy Foudy, Sr. (16:43/LF @ Agoura HS)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 5th at Marmonte League Finals
Team Outlook for 2012: After a great run of six state meet podium finishes and 9 league titles in 10 years (dating from 2000 to 2009), the Highlanders have hit rough times. But 2011 might have been especially tough to swallow, believing it had turned the corner only to miss a CIF Prelims berth by 15 points from the stacked Marmonte League. Solid junior talent Ryan Klachko leads this year's attack, where a closely bunched supporting cast will need to draw much closer to its frontrunner in order to make CIF-SS Finals.

Rank: #95
Team: San Marcos Royals
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 3
League: Channel
Head Coach: Aaron Gillen
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Ryan Sorenson, Jr. (15:43/SS Prelims rain course, 9:55.16); Nicholas Swider, Jr. (15:45 SS Prelims RC); Eric Salas, Jr. (15:48 SS Prelims RC, 9:53.37/3200); Walker Odell, Soph. (15:53 SS Prelims RC); Grant Bradford, Jr. (4:38.76/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 9th in its heat in SS Division 3 Prelims
Team Outlook for 2012: With nearly everyone returning from what already was a pretty strong squad last year, the Royals are now pegged to just barely advance to CIF Finals but will be hard-pressed to unseat heavily favored Dos Pueblos in the joust for the league crown. If San Marcos really want to improve its season prospects, someone needs to step up and establish himself as the frontrunner of the pack and needs to pull that pack along.

Rank: #96
Team: Righetti Warriors
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 2
League: Pac 7
Head Coach: Louis Quintana Sr.
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #2, #3, #4, #7
Top Returnees: Orbanel Perez, Jr. (15:30/SS Prelims rain course); Pablo Nicasio, Sr. (15:46 Prelims RC); Conor McNamara, Sr. (15:56 Prelims RC); Alec DeLeon, Soph. (4:38.03/1600)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 9th in its heat in SS Division 2 Prelims
Team Outlook for 2012: Louis Quintana Sr., who was at the helm when the Warriors were a major force in the 1980 and 1990s, is back at the helm and armed with a crew that could make some noise. Orbanel Perez sets the pace, with several others not far behind. Keep an eye also on sophomore Alex DeLeon.

Rank: #97
Team: Thousand Oaks Lancers
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 2
League: Marmonte
Head Coach: Keena Carstensen
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #5, #6
Top Returnees: Jake Ledbetter, Sr. (16:17 SS Finals rain course); Ben Thomas, Jr. (16:42 Agoura HS league finals, 10:00.56/3200)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 8th in its heat at SS Division 2 Prelims
Team Outlook for 2012: Perhaps the best-kept secret in Division 2, the Lancers have a very long way to go to get to CIF Finals. Only one scorer returns from last year, but an under-the-radar-yet-highly-promising crew of newcomers who stormed to league JV and frosh-soph titles last year will fill in quickly. Projecting as a pretty tightly bunched finishing crew, TO has at least four varsity newcomers as good as the two returnees in making the Marmonte perhaps the state's best through league five teams in 2012.

Rank: #98
Team: Riverside Poly Bears
CIF Section: Southern
State Division: 1
League: Inland Valley
Head Coach: Alfonso Ibarra
Varsity Returnees from 2011 Season Finale: #1, #2, #3, #6, #7
Top Returnees: Matthew Beasley, Sr. (4:36.62/1600, 15:40 at Andulka Park); Tommy Field, Sr. (16:05 at Andulka Park); Brandon Moore, Sr. (16:08 at Andulka Park)
Team Finish in 2011: Placed 5th at the Big VIII League Finals
Team Outlook for 2012: Does Riverside Poly even know how good it is? When a team fails to make CIF, it's often hard for them to know for sure. But top runner Matthew Beasley won his race at the Mt. SAC Invitational (15:56) to key a third-place race finish in a modest team time of 83:00. Tommy Field and Brandon Moore also pretty promising commodities. The squad has switched to the Inland Valley League for this fall, where it will battle for the league title.
