Instead of the traditional New Zealand Open that usually goes down around this time every year, the event organizers over at Burton are trying out a new contest format. It's called the High Fives, and it's a four-day, invite-only slopestyle/halfpipe/jet-boat/skeet-shooting/knife-throwing extravaganza. It's also a team challenge with teams of 12 snowboarders, competing for 10,000 cash prize for the crew with the most overall points.
We got Mark McMorris and Danny Davis to tell us more about it in this video here. If you're interested, you should tune into the live webcasts of the slopestyle and halfpipe events. Slope starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET, halfpipe starts Friday at 6:30 p.m ET. You can watch it all at opensnowboarding.com -- and you should, because it looks like it's been a blast down there so far.
