EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.
"I would like to see what the coaches are going to say . . about it in the morning (on Sunday) and what the trainers are going to say, but I think I've got a pretty good shot," Nicks said Friday in a statement released by the team.
Nicks has missed the past three games because of swelling in his knee and pain in his surgically repaired right foot.
"I practiced," Nicks said, adding that he didn't feel pain when he woke up Friday morning. "I did the majority of practice -- about four or five reps a period. About what I would normally do on a Friday practice. I did good. I had the coaches watching me, asking how I looked, was I compensating or anything like that. I wasn't. So I looked good. I feel good about it. We'll see how I respond in the morning and they'll let me know."
It is unknown if he'll travel with the team to San Francisco.
"He did OK," coach Tom Coughlin said after Nicks participated in the portion of practice open to the media Friday. "We'll have to see how he is."
Prior to the Carolina and Philadelphia games in weeks 3 and 4, Nicks was downgraded from questionable to out. In the two games he's played this season, the 24-year-old has caught 14 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown.
"He'd be a huge asset to our team (if he's able to play)," Coughlin said.
Domenik Hixon has been starting in place of Nicks.
Safety Kenny Phillips (knee), defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (quadriceps) and running back/kick returner Andre Brown (concussion) are out.
Phillips and Bernard both will be missing their second straight game. Reserve Stevie Brown again will start for Phillips. Rookie Markus Kuhn started for Bernard last week, and is expected to do so again this Sunday.
Second-year player Marvin Austin also should see increased snaps with Bernard out, alongside third-year pro Linval Joseph.
Rookie David Wilson, coming off a performance in which he scored his first NFL touchdown, should see increased snaps behind starter Ahmad Bradshaw with Brown out.
Asked about Bernard, Coughlin said: "It's a significant injury. It just takes time. He's trying. He's working. But he's not to a point where he can stop and start and all that business."
Cornerback Corey Webster (hand/hamstring) and offensive tackle David Diehl (knee) are listed as questionable.
Webster sat out of Friday's practice for precautionary reasons. Diehl has missed the previous three games.
Listed as probable are tight end Martellus Bennett (knee), linebacker Chase Blackburn (hip), safety Antrel Rolle (knee), wide receiver Ramses Barden (concussion), linebacker Michael Boley (hip), linebacker Keith Rivers (hamstring) and cornerback Jayron Hosley (hamstring).
Bennett and Hosley both said Friday that they will play against the 49ers.
