Eddie Wineland to fight Brad Pickett
By Brett Okamoto ESPN.com
A bantamweight fight between highly ranked contenders Eddie Wineland and Brad Pickett has been added to the UFC 155 event on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the pairing on Monday. ESPN.com currently ranks Pickett and Wineland at Nos. 6 and 8, respectively, in the 135-pound division.
Pickett (22-6) is coming off a first-round knockout performance over Yves Jabouin in September. The Brit is 2-1 in the UFC with back-to-back finishes to his credit. He submitted Damacio Page via rear naked choke in April.
Wineland (19-8-1) looks to build on the momentum of a second-round finish over Scott Jorgensen at a UFC on FX event in June. The Indiana native dropped his first two fights in the UFC to elite competitors Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez.
A former WEC champion in the weight class, Wineland had won four straight before the two-fight skid.
UFC 155 is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. A heavyweight title fight between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez is set to headline.
