Anthony Pettis hospitalized

By Franklin McNeil

UFC lightweight contender Anthony Pettis was admitted into a Milwaukee-area hospital on Monday with cellulitis, a skin infection, in his elbow, the fighter's manager Mike Roberts and trainer Duke Roufus confirmed to

It is not yet known which hospital Pettis has been admitted into or the elbow that's infected.

Inside MMA Live first reported the news.

"Wow! One thing after another," Pettis said Monday night on Twitter.

The injury comes one week after reports that Pettis sprained a shoulder while training. Pettis was expected to miss a handful of practice sessions thanks to that injury.

It is unclear how long this latest setback will sideline him.

The former WEC lightweight champion has been plagued by a shoulder injury for more than a year. Roufus told in August that Pettis fought his past two fights with an injured shoulder.

He has not fought since Feb. 25, when he knocked out Joe Lauzon in the first round at UFC 144.

Pettis has since had surgery on the shoulder and resumed his regular training regimen.

He targeted January for his return in hopes of fighting Donald Cerrone. The two have participated in a long-running verbal feud, with Cerrone accusing Pettis of trying to avoid him.
