INDIANAPOLIS -- Lucas Oil Stadium hosted a high-profile rookie quarterback battle between Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill after all.
Tannehill started for the Miami Dolphins (4-4) Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts (5-3) in the matchup of two surprise teams competing for a playoff spot in the AFC.
The Dolphins rookie was 22 of 38 for 290 yards with one touchdown but was outdone by Luck, who passed for a rookie-record 433 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts' 23-20 victory.
Tannehill injured his left knee and quad in Miami's win last week against the New York Jets. But Tannehill practiced every day this week in a limited role. He was listed as "questionable" entering the game.
This was the first meeting between Luck and Tannehill. Luck was taken No. 1 overall last April by the Colts and Tannehill was drafted with the No. 8 overall pick by the Dolphins.
