The NBA is investigating Wednesday night's reported confrontation involving Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph and Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins, according to a league spokesman.

After both players were ejected in the fourth quarter of Memphis' 107-97 victory, reports emerged of an altercation in a hallway near the locker rooms.

The Oklahoman newspaper later quoted a police captain in the building saying that "an altercation did not take place and there is no investigation underway," but the league office confirmed Thursday that it is conducting its own investigation.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that both players "tried to get to each other but security prevented (a) physical altercation." The newspaper quoted a witness who called it "playground stupid."

Both players were ejected by referee Ken Mauer with 2:05 remaining in the game after an apparent Perkins elbow and a subsequent exchange of words.
